 2023 Preview

Francis Marion finished the 2022 season with a disappointing 2-7 record. Last year Francis Marion just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 2A region one with a 1-4 region record.

The Rams have never won a playoff game in the school's history. They would like to break through and pick up that first post season victory in 2023.

Francis Marion was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Rams want to be competitive. They only averaged 15.8 points a game.

Francis Marion struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 38.9 points a game.

The Rams would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 4-15 record. Since 2010, Francis Marion has gone a combined 34-95. Their 26.4% winning percentage ranks 55th in Class 2A over the past thirteen seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Francis Marion has not won much with a record of 70-181. Their 28.0% winning percentage ranks 54th in Class 2A and 359th in the AHSAA. The Rams have struggled on the football field with only three winning seasons during this time.

The Rams are led by head coach Termaine Todd who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 2-7 record in his first season at Francis Marion. The Rams have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Todd.

The Rams will need to win a few more games this fall if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region one this season. After just 2 wins last year, Francis Marion will be hoping to become more competitive in the region.

The Rams open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent Dallas County on Friday, August 25 at Rams Stadium. Last year the Dallas County Hornets finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in seventh place in Class 4A region three. The Hornets closed out the regular season with a loss to Southside Selma by a score of 56-36.

Francis Marion and Dallas County have met a total of 24 times on the football field. The Rams have a 6-17-1 record against the Hornets. They last met in 2013 with Dallas County winning by a score of 22-0.
